If you have ever been on safari and wished you could see the twitch of a lion’s ear from across the savannah or watch the glint of sunlight on a kingfisher’s wing, a new partnership between Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) and Leica Camera AG could make that wish come true.
From this season, guests staying at A&K Luxury Sanctuary camps, lodges and riverboats across Africa and South America will be provided with a pair of Leica binoculars, the same precision optics trusted by professional wildlife guides. Whether scanning a riverbank for elusive jaguars, picking out a leopard hidden in shade or spotting a martial eagle soaring overhead, these binoculars ensure no moment is missed.
A&K’s expert guides will also receive specialised Leica training to refine their already exceptional wildlife-spotting skills. As a result, guests will gain sharper, more immersive encounters, with guides able to explain not just what they are seeing, but how to see it. This includes identifying subtle movements, reading animal behaviour and revealing the hidden details of the natural world.
“As guides, we are trained to spot wildlife at great distances, often before anyone else notices,” says Xero, a guide at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. “With Leica binoculars, our guests can share that same level of clarity and detail - it really changes the whole experience. They’re not just observing animals; they’re engaged in every moment, noticing behaviour, movement, even subtle interactions they might otherwise miss.”
Dr Ronny Fritsche of Leica says, “We are excited about our close collaboration with Abercrombie & Kent – two internationally successful premium brands united by a shared commitment to quality, exceptional experiences, and the fascination of the moment. This partnership brings together exclusive luxury travel and high-precision optics, creating a genuine win-win situation.”
With A&K’s guiding expertise and Leica’s world-class optics, the wild has never been closer.
