PHOTOGRAPHY & FILM: LEARN HOW TO DIGISCOPE AND PHONESCOPE using the Kowa spotting scope system

Many of you have likely invested in new equipment to enjoy your hobbies, whether it’s wildlife watching or something else. Now, you might be wondering what to do with things like Digiscoping or Phonescoping. After all, you want to make sure you’re capturing all the incredible sights and sounds you’re seeing.

Digiscoping describes shots taken with a digital camera attached to a spotting scope (handheld or via an adapter) and Phonescoping entails fitting a mobile phone to a scope – which is super convenient as most of us own a smartphone, and the results are often more than acceptable. You will need a relatively cheap adapter to use your smartphone or DSLR and this enables you to attach to the scope, which is very easy!

Rob Wilton made it over to Anglesey in North Wales to film some grey seal pups with the Kowa System - accessories that transform a Kowa spotting scope in to a truly versatile and flexible optical tool.

The results were truly spectacular and you can see the seals in all their glory and take some pointers on Digiscoping and Phonescoping by watching the video above.

Technical details
The Kowa system can be used for terrestrial observation with high quality interchangeable eyepieces including long range applications with the 1.6x extender giving magnifications up to 96x. You can also use your favourite 1.25” astronomy eyepieces with the astro adapters creating a portable astro telescope solution for watching the sky at night.

Every Kowa System accessory benefits from stunning Kowa optical performance with our flagship pure fluorite crystal and XD lens series scopes.
